The folks who brought us Random Acts of Kindness have once again managed
to find the good in humanity with their new book Practice Random Acts of
Kindness. In this 230 page book the editors at Conari Press have collected
more stories that uplift humanity and suggest higher roads for us to take during
a time of political and social unrest. In the preface, Will Glennon states,
“…fear is an emotion that causes us to become so much smaller that we truly
are…The antidote to this steady diet of fearmongering is disarmingly simple:
perspective and compassion.” These stories are emotions; they are actions that
have brought someone a sense of joy, relief, promise, or peace. I am happy to
present this book to our readers so that they may gain a higher perspective as
well.
We read about taking risks, thinking optimistically, pushing fear aside, going with the flow of life…the lessons are plentiful and much needed in a world such as ours. Here are a few of the wonderful insights found in Practice Random Acts of Kindness:
“Our most sacred nature is that we are a society of people, not merely a smattering of individuals. We need each other, and when we try to retreat we are only fooling ourselves.”
“We live in a wonderland of beauty and mystery. The more we hone our skills of observation and develop our sense of connectedness to all that surrounds us, the greater and deeper the wealth of experience of peace, joy, and beauty that is available to us.”
“Each chance encounter offers us the opportunity to choose to make a difference in the world. And each choice we make, small as it may seem, might be the grain that tipped the balance or the thread that finally tied the knot for someone. Choose courageously and generously, for each act of kindness ripples out into the world with pure potential.”
After moments of difficulty that often occur in this world, we need a source of nourishment and uplifting. We need to feel hope in a future that was better than today. It is this kind of elixir for the soul that this book offers. We choose what we allow into our being and this is a very smart and nurturing choice. I support this type of work and I hope that you will too. Get involved today and inspire others through your own random acts of kindness.
“Humans are powerful spiritual beings meant to create good on the earth. This good isn’t usually accomplished in bold actions, but in singular acts of kindness between people. It’s the little things that count, because they are more spontaneous and show who you truly are.” -Dannion Brinkley (Quote from Practice Random Acts of Kindness)
