Passionaries: Turning Compassion Into Action
I now know what I want to do when I grow up…to be a Passionary for a good cause! It’s something we all should attain to. This lovely book is filled with stories and testimonials from 35 individuals and non-profit organizations that are making major changes in today’s world. What a ’feel good’ read in today’s saddened and often depressed society. It’s time for some good news, and this delivers it in full.
Barbara Metzler defines a ‘Passionary’ as ‘a person who wants to make a difference, who wants to do something that changes the lives of others, can create an organization that impacts millions of lives and motivates others to action.’
What greater goal can one have than to affect the world for ‘good’.
The subjects in this book varied from Habitat for Humanity, to Senior Corp, to the Ronald McDonald Houses. I particularly loved the first chapter on the beginnings of USA Harvest… just inspirational.
Each chapter makes you want to get up off the couch & go out and make some great changes. I loved the ‘after word’ of each chapter entitled ‘Ripples’, which shows the effects of this organization on individuals. A sort of ‘Paying it Forward’ effect.
This book should be in every Jr High/Middle School & every High School, for the aspirations it could create in formative minds. I highly recommend that you read it with your families.
