Medicine Dance
One woman’s healing journey into the world of Native American sweatlodges, drumming meditations and dance fasts
by Marsha Scarsbrough

I just finished a great book! It took me right back to a land that I dearly love.. the Southwest desert country. I spent ˝ my life growing up in Phoenix & Tucson, learning the Native American rituals and tribal customs. As a Cherokee child, I loved absorbing the mysteries and practices of the Hopi, Navajo, Apache, Pueblo & Zunis.
Marsha Scarbrough was allowed the gift that most Caucasians are not afforded; that of participating in the sweat lodges, and ceremonial dance. It was fascinating to read of her experiences firsthand. Marsha is a seasoned journalist & more can be read about her at;
www.marshascarbrough.com. Personally, I am going to check into her workshop schedules, as I think it would be a phenomenal event.
I loved the author’s explanation of the ‘Fasting Dances,’ and the ‘Sun Moon Dance’ was utterly heart stopping. (She was a much braver participant than I would have been)
This particular passage held much meaning for me.
“I sat by the fire and stared into it. I saw that the drum is cycles of silence and vibration. Living life in rhythm is letting the cycles of life move you without wasting energy by trying to control them. To live life in rhythm is to be energized by the alternating opposites of happy/sad, work/play, feast/famine, solitude/relationship, birth/death.”
“Medicine Dance” can be purchased online through www.o-books.com for $16.95, and also through other book venues as Amazon.com, etc.
The book will make you want to get up & dance!
Happy Reading!
