Joan Bunning, creator of the website: www.learningthetarot.com, is once again offering her audience another means of understanding the tarot and its complexities. If you are like me, your intent to learn tarot is significantly high, yet the realities of grasping the concepts are often times frustratingly low. Bunning is no stranger to teaching, having offered her services and two previous books on the subject to her readers, her knowledge is vast.
Learning Tarot Spreads is geared to the student who may be more advanced and is ready to take their practice a step further. Her previous books would better suit the beginning student. The author writes, Learning Tarot Spreads “is oriented toward readings you do for yourself.” It is about self growth and development. Bunning goes on to write, “When you do a reading, you show faith in life’s meaning. You demonstrate your intent to know your world more completely. You consciously open yourself to the inner realm so its messages can be revealed.” I greatly appreciated her discussion of letting your intuition be your guide and welcoming your spirit guide to offer wisdom while working with Tarot. It is, after all, a spiritual process and a powerful experience when approached with respect and with good intent.
Spreads are discussed in great detail while offering the reader specific exercises after each section for a better grasp of the previous chapter. Bunning writes of spread size, the importance and meaning of positions within the spread, who or what can be considered a subject of a reading, the flex spread for an easier approach to new spreads, and much more. Although the book is geared toward the personal reading, the author also takes time to discuss reading for others and what this entails, also giving tips to make it a more successful meeting.
In the second part of the book, Bunning presents the reader with many summary and reference tables to assist in guiding readings more fluently and accurately. She also adds the meaning of each tarot card.
Learning Tarot Spreads is for the person who is ready for more regarding tarot and this book offers a significant amount of information and advice to take your practice to the next level by using the guidance you receive and applying it to your daily life. Bunning is a guru of the Tarot and offers her audience a place to start and a place to keep going. This is a great launching point to make that jump in your practice of using the tarot and gaining the clarity you desire in your life.
