Climbing The Gates

by Falkner Evans Trio

album cover

My love of jazz was originally an act of rebellion. All I can recall being played in my childhood home was gospel & country and western music. Hank Williams frequented the airwaves far too often for my tastes. So when I became a teen and could afford the pleasure of seeking out my own venues of tunes, I broke through that narrow barrier of sound.

Later, when I was a working girl with expendable cash, I could branch out even farther into the bliss of ‘ear-gasms’… and discovered the joys of jazz. Loving it all, from fusion, to classical/traditional to contemporary… it pleased me.

The first time I sat in on live sets of Galeeb-Galob in The Back Room on Rush St. in Chicago, I knew I had arrived.

Listening to this new album of Falkner Evans Trio, “Climbing The Gates”, was an enjoyable romp back into some traditional piano jazz. Then, discovering that Evans was from Oklahoma (my place of birth)… I felt that connection. To read more about this remarkable performer, check out his label’s website:  www.jazzbeat.com

The entire trio creates a lovely balance of exciting sounds.

All of the acoustic sounds on this CD are great, but my personal faves were:

“Easy to Remember”, “October”, and “Luna Blue”.

I urge you to check out the CD & discover your own favorites. I know you’ll enjoy the entire collective.

This CD can be purchased online at www.amazon.com and www.cdbaby.com

Happy Listening!
