A Yoga Education: Learning How to Direct and Manage the Consciousness
An education in Yoga is a complete and holistic one, addressing every aspect of our mind and consciousness, our conditioned nature and our life.
To be exposed to and apply oneself to such an education is well worth the time, effort and any money that may be involved as these teachings and disciplines can give one many insights about their own life and existence and provide a firm and wise foundation for mental and spiritual growth.
One of the things that Yoga teaches is that the way our mind and consciousness has been conditioned and evolved, and works in the present can be one that is negative, ignorant and self – destructive in many respects.
We may feel down and confused at times, when we have much to be thankful for.
We may run to sensual pleasures and escapes that though they give us some short - term relief, also may de-stabilize the mind and body in that they make us unbalanced with shame or guilt being pervading emotions.
We may be impatient and easily led to anger and act on those emotions and feelings in ways that hurt ourselves and are abusive to others, instead of seeing that we all have shortcomings as human beings and that condemnation is not the way to deal with them.
When we learn and practice Yoga, as put forth in a comprehensive Yoga education program, we are given a set of teachings and disciplines that teach how to direct and mange our consciousness, bringing it to a state where one – pointedness, joy, control of the senses, fitness for the vision of the self and the pure and balanced state of sattvic energy predominates. Once that state is accessed, it is then built on so that an individual continues to grow and evolve ways that can only be described as being wise and wholesome.
