Our Journey Here

poems for the spirit, messages of comfort and joy

 by Michael Gumprich

Yesterday was a cold & blustery day. Snow lightly falling out my windows… What better time to curl up with a book beside the fireplace, and what better sellection than a book of poetry. The day simply begged for it.

‘Our Journey Here’ is a thoughtful one of introspection, and I found myself reading many again & again. The author has graciously placed a page opposite each poem for handwritten ‘reflections’ on your feelings while reading them. I took advantage of that, as ‘words fitly spoken’ would bring up ideas, memories, or simply smiles. I know you will enjoy doing this as well.

All of the works are lovely, but I will share my personal favorites with you here:

                       Morning Meditation

Each day when I wake

And greet the world again,

The words and thoughts I choose

Will shape the lives of men.

As light scatters through a gem

Kind thoughts and spoken words,

Will touch the souls of many more

Than can be seen or heard.

My life is interwoven

Stitched together with all things,

When my threads touch one another

May all the angels sing.

Here is a soul that takes care

To show love and joy this day,

And in so doing

Brings God’s grace to earth today.

And…

                        Absent Eyes

What thoughts stray from absent eyes

That cannot feel the sun

Or feel the warmth of human touch

On hands long gone numb

Where words and faces once well known

Seem strange and far away,

More distant and fainter still

With each passing day

Can that now lost be later found

Upon another shore,

Where old friends meet again

Memories shared once more

As darkness deepens into night

A door opens wide,

To greet with outstretched arms

The loving soul inside

No spirit is left untended

Confused or alone,

All will find safe passage

And the joyful voyage home
