The 9 Dimensions of the Soul
Essence and the Enneagram
By David Hey
Many years ago I began a study of the Enneagram and discovered my being a number 6, The Skeptic. I think that grouping has served me well, because it has caused me to seek out answers... not being content to just relay on ‘hearsay’. It became interesting for me to try & figure out what ‘numbers’ my friends & family were, based on their personality traits. I was right about ¾ of the time, which was fun.
David Hey has taken the psychological elements of the Enneagram & added them to the study of Essence, which are the qualities of being. It makes for an in-depth and enlightening analysis. He even delves into how countries and hierarchies function under the rules of the Enneagram.
Mr. Hey is a writer, teacher & public speaker, and resides in Italy.
By way of explanation of his material, I will show you the dynamics of my own personal #6. Yours may be completely different than mine (read the book!)
I am the Skeptic, or Loyalist, Questioner, the Devil’s Advocate
My essence is Will.
My color is White.
My symbol is Mount Kailash surrounded by white clouds.
My passion is Fear.
My fixation is Courage/Cowardice
My psychology is Paranoid.
My family deficiency is Absence of safety or support.
My ego ideal is Strength, solidarity
My ego confusion: Confuses Will with defensiveness and counter-phobic activity.
My mask is Always Courageous.
My specific reaction: Defensive suspicion, mistrust.
My organs affected: Colon, kidneys.
The author then goes into a lengthy explanation for all those dynamics.. very interesting reading, & I could see a part of myself in each area.
